About This Project

The Music City Center is a 2.1 million square foot convention center on eight levels. Total construction cost was $415 million. The fifth level of the structure contains a 350,000-square-foot exhibit hall along with a truck dock and apron that can accommodate 32 full-length, semi-trailer trucks. Levels 1 and 3 contain 46 meeting rooms with 1,800-square feet in each room. Level 2 contains a 40,000-square foot ballroom. Level 7 contains a 60,000-square foot grand ballroom located 100′-0″ above the Fifth Avenue street level. The project also contains a 1,800-car parking garage situated on three levels below the exhibit hall between Sixth and Eighth Avenues. There are also over 20,000-square feet of administrative offices below the truck apron between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. Levels 4, 6, and 8 are primarily for mechanical equipment.

Structural framing for Music City Center consists of several different cast-in-place concrete floor framing types from the foundation level at approximate Elevation 424′-0″ up to the Exhibit Hall level at Elevation 476′-6″. There are five different concrete framing levels from the ground level at Fifth Avenue up to the Exhibit Hall, which is at the elevation of the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Demonbreun Street. The lateral-load resisting system for the concrete frames is reinforced concrete shear walls and/or concrete moment resisting frames. Steel framing was chosen for the framing above the Exhibit Hall. There are at least three floor levels of steel framing. The uppermost occupied level at Elevation 525′-0″ is the Grand Ballroom. There are two steel-framed levels above that elevation that serve as mechanical rooms servicing the Ballroom.
