The Scripps Networks Tower is a 245,000-square-foot surgery and NICU expansion to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. It includes two levels of parking and five levels of occupied space. The tower was constructed with a combination of post-tensioned concrete and conventionally reinforced two-way flat plate concrete with drop panels. The concrete moment frame included an outdoor green space on the fifth floor and pierced openings through the roof to create light courts for daylighting the interior. Connection to the existing hospital levels was achieved with a composite steel bridge structure spanning over a public street. The bridges provide circulation, play areas and public waiting areas.
